Come and join the fun

Frederick Douglas is a family run independent theatre school for children aged 7 to 18 years which operates in Halstead, Essex on Saturdays 10am-1pm during term time. We are dedicated to developing performance skills, promoting self-expression and building confidence. This enables children to unlock their hidden talents, overcome their shyness and increase their social skills. Whether your child simply enjoys singing, dancing and acting as a hobby or is hoping to make it their chosen career, Fred's Performing Arts will help them lay the foundations to build upon.

We provide tuition in the three disciplines of musical theatre; drama, singing and dance. We produce professional standard shows each year in a working theatre where we also run our workshops. This provides the children with knowledge and experience of a professional working theatre, they  have the full experience of musical theatre from auditions and learning script, musical arrangement and choreography  to understanding the technical side of production including lighting and sound as well as microphone technique. Furthermore, at Freds we have a casting agency whereby students who wish to be represented by Frederick Douglas will be put forward for professional castings ranging from television work to musical theatre.

At the end of each term you will be able to watch a small performance to enable you to keep up to date with their progress and at the end of the final term they will take part in a full production open to the public, performed at The Empire Theatre.

Fred's is taught in a fun and supportive environment with tutors who have a wealth of performing and teaching experience.
